Pisciculture : La vie reprend près du lac Toho au Bénin

In May 2018, Lake Toho in south-west Benin experienced mass fish deaths. Since then, locals have pivoted towards aquaculture with support from the West Africa Coastal Areas Resilience Investment Project (Waca ResIP). The results have been encouraging with productivity increasing significantly. This transition aims to boost the national fish production, which is mainly artisanal and accounts for over 75% of the national output.

Protection côtière : À Hillacondji, l’océan bat en retraite

Coastal protection works at Grand Popo, on the border with Togo, have shown promising results. The constructions stabilized the coast and safeguarded populations long tormented by severe coastal erosion. Marked erosion escalated in 2012, threatening to deprive Benin of more than 12027 km² of its territorial waters. Cooperation between Benin and Togo reversed the threats. And now, the ocean has receded back 200 meters from its position in November 2022, eliminating the risks of sea surge-related floods. Recreational developments are planned post-stabilization.
